Tension revived as Rwanda discounts gorilla permits by 30% for the low season safaris
Tension among the Rwanda tour operators has been revised as the price of gorilla permits has been discounted by 30%. This is to re-increase the number of visitor to the gorilla conservation areas that is the volcanoes national park.

A year ago, the government of the Republic of Rwanda doubled the price of gorilla permits from $750 to $1500 in order to promote Rwanda as a high end tourism destination, but of this fact the tour operators say that within this 1 year period, they have lost up to 60% of their market base.

Some responses from some tour operator companies.
Mr. Emmanuel Karake, the manager of New Horizon Tours and Services said, “The $1,500 fee is killing us, the discount is a relief.” He further added that, “The gorilla tracking is a unique experience, but this permit fee is too high.”

Mrs. Aimable Tuyigire from Home Rwanda Safaris, appreciated the board for having offered the 30% discount. In her words, she said, “I have not got any bookings based on these discounts.” She further added that “But it’s a great idea. Since the price doubled we have lost many customers, many of whom prefer to cross over to Uganda and track gorillas there.”

Conditions for benefiting from the 30% discount.

  • For one to benefit from discounted gorilla permits of $1050 per person to trek Rwanda gorillas in the volcanoes National Park, he or she must book extra days or nights in other national parks in Rwanda. These other parks include Nyungwe forest national park and Akagera national park.
  • The minimum days to qualify one to benefit from Rwanda low season gorilla permits is three days only and the more days you spend in Rwanda, the better.

When are Rwanda discounted gorilla permits issued/offered?
Rwanda discounted gorilla permits are offered in low seasons of May and November. For those who would like to benefit from Rwanda low season gorilla permits should look at book their Rwanda gorilla safaris in the months of May and November due to the fact that very few tourists turn up for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park as well as other national parks in Rwanda.

Benefits from other national parks.
